POOTER’S FOLLY

tom-and-jerry

The Dear Leader, and his poodles from the Aldridge Foundation and Leadbitters,  got their arses firmly kicked at the Grenfell Action Group impromptu demo on the afternoon of 11th March. Up to 35 stalwart residents braved the freezing cold, at very short notice, to let Cockell know that we are tired of living in slum like conditions, next to a building site, with no access off the Estate to Ladbroke Grove, and nowhere to take a walk or let our children play. Anyway, not the peaceful little sod cutting ceremony the Council had been hoping for, with Pooter getting quite irate with protesters taunts and answering back like a petulant schoolboy.

The little toad couldn’t get off the estate quick enough while mumbling something about a promised £40 million for future housing in Lancaster West. Chance would be a fine thing, as continuing abuse and social cleansing are all we have to look forward to in this neck of the woods.

Earlier, while local protestors shivered in the freezing cold awaiting his appearance, Pooter had remained ensconced in the comfort of the Leadbitters office at Baseline, holding court to an assortment of bootlickers, prominent among whom was Labour leader Judith Blakeman, who supposedly represents the residents of this area, but neglected to inform any of her constituents of the top secret sod-cutting ceremony, arranged solely for Pooters propaganda purposes and his personal aggrandisement. They clearly wanted no local presence at this event, but key details had been leaked to us at the weekend, from an inside source at Hornton Street.

The protestors were armed with football rattles with which they kept up a constant racket. This was no rent-a-mob, but a typical cross-section of Lancaster West residents. Some were housewives, and some were elderly or infirm. All were determined to make their voices heard. There was even one member of the Estate Management Board – Pooter and his quislings were clearly so arrogant that they hadn’t thought to invite any EMB members to attend.

The fact that these intrepid protestors were willing to brave cold and snow in defense of their community is testimony to their humane, heroic and courageous nature, and they should be congratulated for that. Pooter and his retinue meanwhile continued to preen and strut in the warmth and comfort of the Leadbitters office, no doubt hoping that the protesters would either freeze to death, or abandon their pointless and highly embarrassing protest.

Anyway, at some point the leadership of the Grenfell Action Group decided that these good people had been made to wait and freeze too long, and had been treated with utter contempt by Cockell and his cronies. A couple of us breached the Baseline security door with ease, marched straight through a picket-line of Leadbitters heavies (?) and strode into the inner sanctum to confront Pooter face-to-face.

The poor man was clearly shaken at the way his security cordon had collapsed. He stood trembling and clinging desperately to Blakeman’s comforting hand. Coleridge meanwhile was lurking in the background, looking for all the world like a spurned lover. He had clearly thought Blakeman was his, and his alone. Pooter and Blakeman were given the tongue-lashing they deserved and told, in no uncertain terms, to get outside and face the waiting protest.

A thoroughly chastened Pooter was left with no option but to comply. He was forced to run a gauntlet of verbal abuse as he scurried towards the relative safety of the heavily boarded KALC site, desperately clutching his little silver spade.  As for Blakeman, she has disgraced herself in this community by sucking up to Pooter, and Coleridge, and our many other Tory enemies at RBKC, who wish this community no good, and never have done. Sooner or later she will get her just deserts.

THE REST, AS THEY SAY, WILL BE HISTORY.

THEY ARE SMASHING DOWN THE GYM

Kim-Jong-Un

10th March 2013 – Grenfell Action Group email addressed to Councillors Blakeman and Coleridge, and copied to ALL councillors at RBKC, including the DEAR LEADER whose address is, of course, leader@rbkc.gov.uk

********************************************************************************

Dear Councillors,

“THEY ARE SMASHING DOWN THE GYM AND THEY STARTED THE DEMOLISHING AT 8.20AM. ALONG WITH OUR BUILDING SHAKING AND MOVING I AM NOW EXPERIENCING CONCRETE DUST AND TERRIBLE NOISE. I AM SO ANGRY BECAUSE I WAS INFORMED THAT NEW WINDOWS WOULD BE INSTALLED BEFORE GYM BEING SMASHED APART”

The passage above is the text of a very irate and obviously desperate email I received from one of my neighbours last Friday. I believe it speaks for itself. Unfortunately for this man, his home is immediately adjacent to the Leisure Centre sports hall, which is little more than10 yards from his living room window.

We were initially led to believe that replacing the obsolete windows in Verity Close with new double-glazed and energy efficient windows should be fairly straightforward. However, these assurances proved worthless when Paul Dunkerton at the TMO, later wrote to us on 19th February, saying:

“I contacted the Planning Department for advice on what information is required for the Planning Application. I was informed that each block may require a planning application with elevation drawings and specification on the type of windows accompanied with drawings. This was obviously more than the TMO had anticipated so we engaged the services of an external consultant from IBI Taylor Young to assist in developing Planning Applications on our behalf.  Planning Applications….have now been submitted and I am sure will be progressed as expediently as possible by the LPA. The TMO, and our consultants IBI Taylor Young, will continue to work with the LPA for a hasty and satisfactory conclusion.”

He later revealed in conversation that he thought it unlikely that the Verity Close planning applications would need to go to committee for decision.

Unfortunately, all such reassurances and/or statements of intent, whether from Councillors, or from officers of either the Council or the TMO, appear to have little value. We are increasingly exposed in Verity Close, and in other parts of Lancaster West, to extreme levels of noise and vibration from the heavy machinery on the KALC site and suffer frequent seismic shocks that make whole buildings shake. Meanwhile the £6 million improvement works promised for Grenfell Tower (funding approved by Cabinet in May 2012) have been repeatedly delayed and postponed without explanation, and the Verity Close window replacement project seems now to be suffering a similar fate.

The very least that you can do, as public servants with particular responsibility for this community, is to bring pressure to bear on those in power, and on those who will decide these planning applications, to expedite them as matters of urgency, so that those most impacted by noise and airborne pollutants etc can at least have some small measure of protection.

PLEASE WILL YOU DO SO NOW WITHOUT FURTHER DELAY?

Please note also that the construction contractors introduced Saturday working for the first time this weekend. I subsequently received reports of a convoy of at least16 HGV lorries queueing to enter the KALC site between 7am and 8am on Saturday morning. I had already complained earlier to Mr Chiles of Leadbitters that this practice of early HGV arrivals breached the conditions under which planning permission was granted (ie work to start no earlier than 8am daily) but got the brush-off from him. I then complained formally to Mr Wright at the LPA but got no response from him. Since then the problem has clearly worsened significantly, and the incident on Saturday was a gross violation of the conditions under which planning permission was granted.

I strongly suspect that this most recent sudden increase in HGV traffic, notably on Saturday 9th March, has more to do with Cllr Cockell’s pretentious PR stunt, planned for Monday afternoon, than it has to do with essential works on the site in question. Local residents were not informed of the sod-cutting ceremony and have been deliberately and pointedly excluded, for obvious reasons. This is particularly odious.

Indeed, the whole ugly stunt reminds one of the kind of excess normally associated with tinpot dictatorships, and has all the stink of the same cynical and brutal disregard of the rights and quality of life of Lancaster West residents that the Council and its planners have demonstrated throughout the KALC planning process. It is especially galling that we must count our own local Labour councillors among those who have so cynically and so brutally betrayed this community, and we regard their betrayal as especially repugnant.

If Mr Wright is still in post at the LPA then he should acknowledge my HGV complaint without further delay. If he is not in post then please would one of you refer me to his successor so that I can forward my original complaint, and this latest one, to be properly dealt with?

I might well ask in closing, do the residents of this area have no right to the peaceful enjoyment of their homes, and does anyone at RBKC or the TMO even care?

Yours Sincerely,

Grenfell Action Group

PRIME MINISTER VISITS LANCASTER WEST

napoleon

Mr Myers has given Prime Minister Pooter permission to use the £120,000 Mayoral Bentley on his Monday visit to the Borough’s northern nether regions.

The visit is top secret and involves those two great beneficiaries of local government taxation, Pooter and Sir Rod Aldridge of Crapita, performing a ‘sod cutting ceremony’ to inaugurate the start of the Kensington Academy and Leisure Centre. The story that Pooter will use the moment to beg Rod for a Crapita non executive directorship is wholly  unsubstantiated…..whatever else he is….. fool Rod is not!

Pooter has an insatiable need to feed his sad little ego. One would have thought he would have jumped at the chance to be seen with a big hitter like Rod. Seemingly not: even that irritating self publicist Cllr ‘Betsy’ Campbell has been told to put a sock in it!

So nothing on the Council website and no invitation to local resident groups. Fortunately, The Hornet is able to help. It appears the Grenfell Action Group are standing by to give the PM a ‘very warm welcome’

THIS MONDAY 11th MARCH 4PM

The Dame hears this sodding stunt may well have been scheduled for January or February, but the accident strewn project was partly delayed because Environmental Health had cocked up and overlooked the asbestos and lead on the site, whilst the Legal Department had not bothered to remove local residents’ “Rights of Way”.

Local residents have been treated in a contemptible manner. The KALC project has been foisted upon them with no account taken of unacceptable levels of noise and pollution. To worsen matters residents have no access off the Estate towards Ladbroke Grove and Portobello Rd and have lost their children’s playground. Now they have nowhere to take fresh air or walk their dogs.

HAD COCKELL TRIED THIS NUMBER ON IN THE AFFLUENT SOUTH OF THE BOROUGH HE WOULD HAVE HAD HIS BACKSIDE KICKED

“INVEST IN LANCASTER WEST” PROTEST

YOUR COMMUNITY NEEDS YOU NOW.

LET’S SPOIL THE ROTTEN SODS PARTY

THE LEADER OF KENSINGTON AND CHELSEA COUNCIL, SIR MERRICK COCKELL, AND OTHER COUNCIL BIGWIGS WILL BE TAKING PART IN A “SOD CUTTING” EXERCISE TO CELEBRATE THE START OF THE DESPISED KENSINGTON ACADEMY AND LEISURE CENTRE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT ON MONDAY 11TH MARCH AT 4.00PM.

TYPICALLY, LOCAL RESIDENTS HAVE NOT BEEN INVITED BUT THE LANCASTER WEST COMMUNITY ARE STRONGLY URGED TO ATTEND THIS EVENT!!

LOCAL STAKEHOLDERS HAD PREVIOUSLY REQUESTED THAT SIR MERRICK COCKELL MEET WITH RESIDENTS TO HEAR OUR CONCERNS ABOUT SOCIAL CLEANSING AND THE LACK OF LONG-TERM INVESTMENT IN OUR HOMES BUT HE HAS ALWAYS STEADFASTLY REFUSED.

ON MONDAY, RESIDENTS CAN ASK SIR MERRICK TO EXPLAIN WHY OUR NORTH/SOUTH ACCESS OFF THE ESTATE HAS BEEN DENIED TO US CAUSING MUCH HARDSHIP AND INCONVENIENCE FOR THE MORE VULNERABLE IN OUR COMMUNITY. MAYBE HE MIGHT CARE TO EXPLAIN WHY THE PROMISE TO KEEP STATION WALK OPEN HAS BEEN SO SPECTACULARLY BROKEN AND IF ANY OTHER COUNCIL PROMISES ARE ACTUALLY WORTH A DAMN.

THE COUNCIL CAN TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO EXPLAIN WHY OUR COMMUNITY HAS LOST IT’S CHILDREN’S PLAYGROUND AT THE BASE OF GRENFELL TOWER AND WHY THERE IS NOWHERE FOR RESIDENTS TO TAKE SO MUCH AS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR (LET ALONE WALK A DOG) DUE TO THE DETESTED KALC PROJECT.

FINALLY, WE CAN GET SIR MERRICK TO EXPLAIN WHY HE AND HIS QUISLINGS AT THE COUNCIL HAVE TREATED THIS COMMUNITY WITH UTTER CONTEMPT AND FAILED COMPLETELY IN THEIR DUTY OF CARE TO US AS A COMMUNITY.

JUST LOOK AROUND YOU!

MEET OUTSIDE THE CARETAKERS OFFICE (BASE OF GRENFELL TOWER) AT 3.30PM ON MONDAY AFTERNOON.

THIS IS OUR OPPORTUNITY TO LET THE COUNCIL KNOW THAT WE WILL NOT LOSE OUR HOUSING OR OUR DIGNITY WITHOUT A FIGHT.

TMO STILL ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL

asleep_at_the_wheelMany of our readers will recall the item we posted on 21st February quoting a passage from the most recent Fire Risk Assessment for Grenfell Tower. That particular item got 91 hits in a single day, so we know that it sparked a lot of interest and was read by a lot of people. The passage we quoted from the assessment report was highly suggestive of a general failure to inspect and maintain fire safey equipment at Grenfell Tower, and was further suggestive of an ongoing culture of negligence at the TMO.

Since we posted that item we have received no communication from the TMO, or any other authority, contradicting our conclusions, or indicating that any urgent action had been taken, in response either to the Report itself, from November 2012, or to our blog item on 21st  February. It would seem, therefore, that our reading of the report was correct and that there has indeed been significant negligence, which has been ongoing for a considerable length of time

Before going public on this issue we had sent the full report to Cllr Judith Blakeman (on 18th February) and copied it simultaneously to the high and mighty at the TMO and RBKC. The only response we got was from Cllr Blakeman, which we reproduce below:

“Thank you for this, it is very useful. I have asked for a full and comprehensive report once the emergency fire test at Grenfell Tower has been conducted and also for this to be an item on the Lancaster West EMB meeting agenda. I have also asked for the likely timeframe within which we can expect a response.”

Three cheers for Blakeman, but this wasn’t her fault to begin with, and the report itself makes it absolutely clear that ultimate responsibility rests with the Chief Executive of the Council, who are the landlords of the property. Two weeks on shouldn’t we be seeing some signs of urgency from both TMO and RBKC, if not of utter scandal, at the mere thought that negligence of this kind might be routine and widespread in the Royal Borough’s social housing?

The investigation of the negligence identified should be immediate, wide-ranging and uncompromising. The residents of Grenfell Tower should be offered an immediate apology. They should also be informed immediately of the contents of the report, and of the progress of the investigation, and they should be offered genuine and credible assurances that this kind of negligence will end now, and will not be tolerated in future. Nothing less will suffice.

THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH A BUREAUCRACY THAT IS INCAPABLE OF REACTING TO SERIOUS NEGLIGENCE, AFFECTING FIRE SAFETY IN A DENSELY OCCUPIED TOWER BLOCK, WITH ANY SENSE OF URGENCY .

DOES ANYONE ACTUALLY GIVE A DAMN?

TO BE OR NOT TO BE……..

End-Of

Most residents of Lancaster West already know that all rights-of way from the Grenfell Tower area northwards, via Lancaster Road towards Ladbroke Grove and Portobello Road, have been closed since 1st February. This is despite promises previously made that Station Walk would be kept open during the KALC construction, except for occasional short term closures when necessary for essential works. These promises are well documented, notably in the minutes of the December meeting of the KALC Community Forum:

“Station walk is being kept open. However, when piling takes place this will need to be closed due to health and safety reasons. It is envisaged that this will be for 2 weeks”

In the light of this promise residents might well wonder why the contractors subsequently sealed off Station Walk with what was obviously a strong, secure, and permanent fence. When challenged about this they continued to insist that the closure of Station Walk was only temporary, although they declined to offer a re-opening date, despite constant pressure from us to do so. It is interesting to note also that the piling works they claimed as the excuse for the closure have still not begun, even though a full month has passed since the closure of the footpath.

The good news is that a new promise was made at the most recent forum meeting on Tuesday 19th February, to reopen a footpath along the original north/south line between the caretakers office at the top of Grenfell Road and the corner of Lancaster Road.

The bad news accompanying this announcement was that it wouldn’t be possible (they said) for about three weeks. The plan to reopen this footpath apparently resulted from their belated admission that they would not, after all, be able to reopen Station Walk, as they had previously promised. They said they had encountered unforseen problems during the works in that area that would make it impossible to reopen the Silchester Road end of Station Walk until the construction works have finished. Let’s not forget, however, that they have solemnly promised to reopen Station Walk, and to keep it open “in perpetuity” when the KALC project is finally completed.

Anyway, it seems that we can now expect a footpath to Lancaster Road to be reopened from about Tuesday 12th March.

We would advise, however, several notes of caution. It’s been a full week since this new promise was made and, so far, there are no visible signs on site of works to erect the fencing this footpath will require, presumably a secure wooden fence just as elsewhere around the site.

We also know, from previous dialogue, that the Leadbitters project manager has been very resistant to a footpath along this line because it would effectively cut the KALC site in two, making communication between the Academy site and the Leisure Centre site very difficult for his workers.

Last, but not least, given the history of lies and broken promises previously with regard to Station Walk, questions remain as to whether we can ever trust statements issued, or promises made, from whatever official source associated with this despised KALC development.

WE’LL JUST HAVE TO CROSS OUR FINGERS AND HOPE THAT THEY WILL DELIVER ON THIS ONE.
